The 2020+ Nissan Frontier Intake Manifold Spacer (IMS) was designed to improve horsepower and torque across the powerband where your truck needs it the most.

On the past generation Frontier's 4.0L V6, the intake manifold spacer is one of the most popular performance modifications. After the release of Z1's Intake Spacer, we began working towards producing a comparable product for Nissan's new 3.8L V6. Before we start production on any new products we first work toward analyzing potential performance benefits to confirm whether or not these parts produce the anticipated performance benefits.

At the start of this project, Z1 engineers used design software to render CAD models of the spacer. Using our 5-axis CNC, we machined the initial test unit from a block of solid aluminum to create a functioning prototype. We gradually milled the surface down while performing dyno and road testing on each thickness along the way until we found the optimal runner length for the VQ38. This allowed us to carefully tune the runner length to improve drivability while simultaneously improving engine output.

The Final Product

Through thorough testing and analysis, we determined that the best-performing spacer was 25mm thick. The Z1 Intake Manifold Spacer is precision machined from 6061 billet aluminum and receives a type II anodized coating for the best appearance and corrosion resistance. Z1's spacer was designed to accept OEM-style intake gaskets (also included) for optimal sealing performance and longevity. By machining these adapters to utilize factory intake gaskets, you can be confident that a proper seal can be achieved.
