The Z1 Off-Road Nissan Frontier Advanced Induction System (AIS01) is engineered to outperform the competition, providing class-leading improvements in horsepower and torque.
When we launched Z1 Off-Road in 2019, we brought with us decades of experience in engineering high-performing intake solutions from our Motorsports team. Before we began production of the AIS01 Intake, we wiped the board clean. You can't climb the highest mountain if you don't know which one is tallest, so we started our approach by analyzing nearly every aftermarket intake solution on the market (maybe you've seen the video) to learn what made power, what didn't, and what was missing from nearly all of the premium intakes. The end result was what we feel is the most complete intake system available, packed with features you didn't even know you needed!
THE AIRBOX
The AIS01 Intake starts with a roto-molded polyethylene air box, engineered to fit our custom-designed dry-media air filter. On the top of the intake box, a large weather-sealed window is installed and giving you a clear view of the filter inside. A large rubber grommet is supplied with the airbox to seal the inlet against the inner fender, providing optimal performance in wet and dirty conditions. Additionally, this grommet keeps hot air from the engine bay out of the intake, improving engine performance! On the outside of the grommet, a molded plastic volute is attached to improve the airs path as it enters the intake box.
Please note: the Z1 airbox uses the factory airbox bolts located underneath the bottom of the box. If you already have an aftermarket intake installed and these have been removed, you will need to purchase two replacement bolts HERE.
THE FILTER
Inside the airbox is our custom-designed air filter featuring an integrated velocity stack. This is used to maximize and optimize airflow by allowing air to enter the intake piping through an un-obstructed rounded taper (similar to a trumpet horn.) This results in less intake turbulence and increased air velocity, allowing your intake system to work at its maximum potential! The large media Z1 Air Filter uses a serviceable cotton-based media, similar to all Z1 Motorsports Intakes. (Replacement Air Filter)
THE TUBING
Optimizing intake performance means identifying weak points in every part of the intake system. The stock corrugated couplers and tubing are removed and replaced with a roto-molded polyethylene intake tube, giving air the ability to reach the throttle body with minimum turbulence and interruption. The intake tubing is attached to the throttle body and airbox with multi-layer reinforced silicone couplers, providing exceptional sealing performance and longevity. We also chose to include new PCV hoses manufactured from the very same high-grade silicone material. All included couplers feature an oil-resistant fluorosilicone lining to prevent deterioration or sweating.
THE GAINS
The dyno sheet below illustrates the power and torque gained on a mechanically stock 2017 Nissan Frontier with 33'' tires. This truck saw a maximum gain of 11whp and 5tq spread across the entire powerband after installing the Z1 Intake. You can see the increase in torque is spread throughout the curve with modest improvements at higher RPM as well. These tests were done back-to-back under the same conditions for the most consistency.
Additional testing was done on the new 3.8 powertrain found in 2020+ models and saw similar maximum gains of 10whp and 8tq. By looking at the graph below, you can see that this truck also benefited from a peak torque gain of 10 ft-lbs around 5700rpm.
