Z1's 370Z / G37 Performance Headers are an evolution of the original VQ Performance Headers, re-engineered using the most advanced CAD techniques and manufacturing processes.
These headers are constructed with 1 3/4" 304 stainless steel primaries, feeding into a cast merge collector (also stainless 304). Unlike fabricated merge collectors, cast collectors offer better consistency in manufacturing, resulting in improved flow characteristics and scavenge effect. A merge spike is welded inside the collector, making the transition from the primary tube to the collector as seamless as possible. Like the collector, the cylinder head flange is also manufactured from precision castings and features a complete 12-hole bolt pattern. This is done to allow the headers to be installed on any generation VQ37 without the need to relocate cylinder head studs. The cast cylinder head flange was designed to transition from the oval exhaust port shape to the round primary tube without the need to crush the primary tube, promoting great flow from the moment exhaust gasses enter the header. Every primary tube is carefully measured to ensure equal length with a tolerance of just a fraction of a millimeter. This precision allows exhaust pulses to hit the collector in perfect timing, creating a vacuum that pulls in fresh air and fuel during the intake stroke – a critical feature for maximizing the "scavenge" effect in high-revving performance engines.
THE GAINS
Power is the name of the game, and Z1's headers deliver. The dyno below illustrates the gains seen on a 2009 370Z. This car was previously equipped with Z1 Carbon Fiber Intakes, a complete Z1 Touring Exhaust, and an EcuTek tune. The dyno graph shows us maximum output of +16whp and +2lb-ft of torque, but more importantly, we see peak gains of 17whp and 12lb-ft of torque at 7250rpm. Increases in horsepower and torque are apparent throughout the RPM range, especially towards the top, where your car was meant to be driven. The final output of 342whp and 274wtq is a great number to see from a car that still has stock upper and lower intake manifolds and is tuned on 93-octane pump fuel. That means there is still more power on the table for this N/A VQ.
