A standard open differential is a component that transfers the rotational energy (torque) produced by the engine to the wheels. As the vehicle is making its turn, the inside wheel tends to rotate more slowly than the outer. If either of the wheel loses contact with the ground and is in a ‘floating’ state, the vehicle will lose all its traction capabilities and will not accelerate forward. This is also true in high mileage viscous differentials, and cars constantly driven to their limits.
A clutch type LSD system eliminates the uneven power distribution which tends to apply more rotational drivetrain energy to the wheel that has less grip. During aggressive driving (involving lots of turns), an LSD unit efficiently distributes the torque from the wheel with less grip capabilities to the wheel that has more, enabling more traction for the vehicle.
In the RS Model, the activation pressure is applied to the same direction of the initial torque with the utilization of a coil spring. Therefore, the initial torque is set lower than the MZ model and enables a smoother and quicker initial engaging clutch plates from a non operational to a fully functioning state even despite a low initial torque rating is set. The virtues of a low initial torque setting is that it enables a smooth turn even while the LSD mechanism is not activated. Because of the coil spring design, it provides overall gentle and stable operation.

The RS Springs sit inside the pressure rings which helps engage the rear lock and the number of springs can be added or subtracted for personal customization.
Type RS Benefits
- Low power loss means better lap times for even the mild tuned of cars.
- Chattering is kept low.
- Improved durability as clutch plates are low pressured. The LSD efficiency is higher with smoother oil flow between plates.
- Special precision springs set in the pressure plate assure steady coil movement.
- Clutch plates do not stick together like conventional cone plate type
- LSDs therefore no clutch plate wear or deterioration occurs.
- Performance remains stable thanks to the extremely durable RS springs.
- Reacts to throttle work directly.
- Transfers high power without slippage.
- No clutch slipping in 0-400 meter accelerations.(1/4 mile competition) Transfers steady power in long drifts.
Available in two configurations:
• 1.5 way LSD
Activates under acceleration while the under-steer under deceleration is less than on a 2 way LSD. Recommended for those who have a hard time with under-steer.
• 2 way LSD
Activates on both acceleration and deceleration. Recommended for those who prefer aggressive driving and big angle drifting.
Cusco LSD's have two different cam angle settings in one LSD unit which allows you to switch different cam angles without purchasing any additional parts.

All Cusco limited slip differentials have the option of adjusting the responsiveness and the locking characteristics the LSD by the combinaion of each plate and its designation of how it is stacked. Cusco's exclusive clutch plate grooves are cut radially enabling instant oil movement, thus improving efficiency and durability. The pressure ring contact surface is polished for an even and flat contact with the clutch plates. The exclusive Cusco Oil Through System enhances great oil circulation and supply to the necessary areas when used with the Cusco LSD Oil.

NOTE: Cusco Limited Slip Differentials are intended to replace stock VLSD model cars. Additional flanges are required if installing this differential in a base model housing.
Cusco differentials are special order items. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.
