Transform the way your 370Z or G37 grips the road with Z1's R-Pro 1.5-way clutch-type differential. Whether you're carving up canyon roads, dominating autocross circuits, or launching hard at the drag strip, this LSD ensures both rear wheels work together, ensuring consistent power delivery, sharper cornering, and reduced wheelspin. Say goodbye to wasted horsepower and hello to predictable, race-proven handling.
Why a limited-slip differential?
Many 370Z and G37 manual transmission models come equipped with a standard open differential, which applies equal torque to both wheels but struggles when wheel slip occurs. In high-slip situations, most of the torque is sent to the slipping wheel, reducing traction and stability. This is a phenomenon known as the "one-wheel peel."
The factory upgrade, Nissan’s OE Viscous Limited Slip Differential (VLSD), improves traction compared to the open differential but has significant drawbacks. Over time, the internal non-Newtonian fluid degrades, leaks can occur, and changes in internal tolerances lead to inconsistent performance. High operating temperatures further reduce its effectiveness, sometimes causing it to behave unpredictably like an open differential. This inconsistency at the limit results in poor cornering stability and compromised straight-line acceleration.
Why choose a clutch-type differential?
The R-Pro is a 1.5-way clutch-type differential engineered for superior torque distribution to both wheels. As a 1.5-way unit, it provides more aggressive locking under acceleration while allowing controlled slip under deceleration, enhancing cornering stability without excessive resistance. The carefully tuned progressive ramp angles ensure just the right amount of tire slip when off-throttle while maintaining full lock when power is applied. Clutch-type LSD's are always at least partially locked. This means if lifting a tire on-track, both tires still receive torque. This is important, at least when compared to viscous or helical LSD's, which act like an open-differential when you lift a tire.
Clutch-type differentials are often associated with noise and clunking at low speeds due to high preload and aggressive ramp angles. The R-Pro minimizes these drawbacks through precision-machined ramp faces and cam geometry. This design allows for a moderate preload, delivering balanced street manners without sacrificing track performance. Additionally, the tight tolerances between the ramp face and cam ensure a fast, responsive transition between throttle states, eliminating the latency found in many clutch-type differentials.
Installation Notes: It is VERY IMPORTANT that this installation is done by a competent and experienced driveline shop. Incorrect gear pattern, out-of-spec back-lash or gear pre-load will result in accelerated wear, noise, etc. If you choose to locate a driveline shop for installation, we recommend purchasing new side bearing and side axle seals. As a convenience, this has been included as an option below. (Different spec side shims may be needed for installation - available separately HERE).
This Limited Slip Differential is only compatible with manual class final drive ratios like the 3.53, 3.69, 3.91, 4.08 & 4.36. If you are unsure of your current gear ratio for your 370Z or G37 please take a look at the Gear Ratio Chart found HERE.
The R-Pro is designed to use 2 Short LSD Stub Axles. You can add Heavy Duty Stub Axles to your order from the options below.
