Z1's DISCO Box is a plug-and-play dual MAF translator used to expand the power potential of the 1990-1996 300ZX by allowing you to add a second mass air flow sensor. This is used to build a true dual intake system and greatly expands the power limits of the factory ECU.
Why do you need it?
Deciding whether or not the DISCO Box is necessary is simple. Do you want to make more power, or not? In the factory single MAF configuration, power is limited to approximately 450whp as you reach the effective metering potential of the stock mass air flow sensor. To make more power, a second MAF is necessary to allow the ECU to meter the greater volume of air. Adding a second MAF is the easiest and most cost-effective solution to the problem.
Dual Intake // Single Channel Output
The DISCO box makes it easy to upgrade to a true dual intake configuration without the need for an ECU tune. This allows you to expand the power potential of your Z32 well beyond the capabilities of a stock single-intake setup. A mode switch is placed on the board, allowing you to switch between "add" and "average" modes to be used on socketed ECU's with single or dual intake tuned EPROM chips. A plug-and-play harness was designed using weather-sealed Bosch-style connectors. All connectors use integrated spring clips, making them easy to install and remove without the risk of losing the clips during install and service.
During design, Z1's engineering team selected a group of independent enthusiasts to participate in a beta program and assist in testing the DISCO Box's functionality. Over a 12-month period, these testers were able to offer detailed analysis and feedback, which was crucial in validating the final design and placement of the DISCO Box before its launch in the market.
On-Board Diagnostics
A multi-color diagnostic LED is placed on the board and viewed through a window on the back of the box. This is used to troubleshoot faults within the MAF circuit and illuminates one of 4 colors when a fault is detected. This makes it possible to single out specific mass air flow sensors when experiencing poor running conditions. The DISCO Box is located underhood in an easy-to-access location making it easy to check the status of all related MAF components if necessary.
